Groundbreaking of the Segelflieger Quarter in Berlin – WING is proud to be part of this milestone

2025-10-09

We are pleased to announce that BAUWERT AG, in which WING holds a majority stake, has officially launched construction of one of Berlin’s most ambitious urban development projects – the Segelflieger Quarter in Johannisthal / Adlershof.

The ceremonial groundbreaking was attended by Berlin’s Governing Mayor Kai Wegner, Urban Development Senator Christian Gaebler, Treptow-Köpenick District Mayor Oliver Igel, WISTA CEO Roland Sillmann, representatives of degewo AG, and BAUWERT’s board. Representing the majority owner, Noah Steinberg, CEO of WING, and Tibor Veres, Chairman of the Board and Founder of the Wallis Group, also participated in the event.

Project Highlights & Vision

  • The development covers over 214,000 m² on a former airport site and will include approximately 1,800 rental apartments, of which 25 % will be subsidized.

  • The first two rental residential buildings to be built are Arthur (146 units) and Thekla (36 units), both targeting DGNB Gold sustainability certification.

  • Beyond housing, the quarter will offer high-quality services, a daycare center, a neighborhood hub, green public spaces, and around 153,000 m² of commercial, research and technology areas, directly adjacent to a thriving technology park.

  • Designed as a “5-minute city,” everyday needs – living, working, leisure, and education – will all be within easy reach.

A Landmark Project in BAUWERT’s History

For BAUWERT, this marks a defining milestone: in more than 40 years of development, it is the company’s largest project to date. Once completed, the Segelflieger Quarter will be home to thousands of residents, uniting architectural quality, social diversity, and environmental responsibility.

Why This Matters

This is more than a construction project — it represents a new paradigm for urban living, combining bold design, inclusive community building, and sustainable development.

Through WING’s involvement, we are proud to help shape the Berlin of tomorrow.
