Honvéd Center receives BREEAM In-USE Very Good certification

Both buildings of Honvéd Center have received BREEAM In-Use Very Good sustainability certification after being renovated in a WING project. The office buildings in downtown Budapest earned their certification with their energy and water efficient management and with features that contribute to the well-being and health of the occupants.
Honvéd Center in District 5 in Budapest, renovated by WING, and its new office wing, Honvéd Center New, have received BREEAM In-USE Very Good certification. In-Use certifications are awarded to buildings already in use and provide an opportunity to investors, developers and owners to have the buildings on their properties implementing sustainable and environmentally friendly solutions assessed in an independent certification system that uses environmental criteria.
The BREEAM In-Use sustainability certification system uses 8 categories to assess the environmental impact of buildings already in use and the ecological footprint of their operation. Assessment criteria include the efficiency of water and energy management, waste management processes, eco-friendly solutions, the support of local biodiversity, the wellbeing and health of occupants and the preservation of the building.
Sustainability and the environmental impact of the buildings are a priority for WING, and as a result its major developments have been constructed with a commitment to sustainability for over ten years now, and buildings completed earlier are continuously being modernised with an environmental focus. We are delighted that the two buildings of Honvéd Center, another of our iconic downtown complexes, received the certification, showing that with careful planning even older buildings can be managed sustainably, in an eco-friendly manner,
said Gábor Angel, WING’s Deputy CEO for Office Developments.
To secure the certification, WING Zrt. installed water-efficient equipment when the sanitary areas were fully renovated, and replaced conventional lighting fixtures with LED units everywhere in both buildings. To improve water and energy efficiency, the cooling and the shading systems have been modernised, making it easier to maintain optimal temperature in the offices. To guarantee the wellbeing of the occupants, the old building of Honvéd Center has also been made accessible, bicycle racks have been installed and, if required by tenants, changing rooms with showers can be created for those riding a bike to work. In addition to the wellbeing of occupants, wildlife is also a key consideration in the certification process—to protect biodiversity, bird feeders were installed on the premises.
Honvéd Center provides quality office space of approx. 3900 sq m in a traditional environment, behind a renovated facade that dates back to the turn of the 19th-20th century. The new wing, Honvéd Center New, offers category A office space of approx. 2300 sq m on 6 floors. Offices can be converted and arranged to suit individual needs. Available services include a reception, 24/7 security service, warehouse rental options and a key card access system for the convenience of the tenants.
