Telekom Headquarters earns Property Development Award

2019-11-20

Telekom Headquarters, developed by WING, was awarded the “Best Office Building” title at the prestigious 21st Hungarian Property Development Award of Excellence competition by a jury of Hungarian and international professionals. The competition is designed to recognise outstanding, world class developments, and the winners can represent their countries at the international FIABCI World Prix d’Excellence competition.

11 November 2019 Telekom Headquarters has won yet another award. The iconic building owned and developed by WING Zrt., and defining and shaping Budapest’s cityscape, has won first place in the “Office Building” category of the Hungarian Property Development Award of Excellence competition. The awards ceremony was held on 8 November. This year, a jury of independent Hungarian and international professionals presented the awards at the Atrium hall of Gerbeaud House. Category winners will have the chance to represent Hungary at the international FIABCI World Prix d’Excellence property development excellence award competition and see how they stack up against international competitors.

Hungary’s largest single-block new generation office building is leased by Magyar Telekom under a long-term lease. The new headquarters represent the state of the art in terms of technical implementation, technology, eco-friendliness and privacy in Hungary today. It was the first in Hungary to obtain a BREEAM Excellent rating under the more stringent regulations introduced in 2013, becoming at the same time a building with one of the highest BREEAM ratings in Hungary. Located at the crossing of Könyves Kálmán körút and Üllői út, it is the gateway to the city centre for those arriving from Budapest International Airport or the M5 motorway, and is also easily accessible by car, public transportation and bicycle. The M3 metro line, currently being further renovated, offers direct and convenient connection to the city centre, while tram line 1, which passes right in front of the building, provides another alternative. Domestic and international lines are available from Népliget Bus Terminal and Ferencváros Railway Station. The building with roughly 100,000 square metres of floor space has been completed to the designs of TIBA Studio architectural firm to high standards of quality, within budget and fully tailored to Magyar Telekom’s requirements. Building on the success of the new Telekom Headquarters, WING has, this year, begun the construction of its latest office building development project Liberty Office Building, slated for completion in 2021.

“Dedication, expertise and professionalism are at the heart of WING’s success. We are committed to creating internationally outstanding buildings and thereby contributing to the development of the Hungarian national economy and the environment of our capital that has been built. The award presented by the professional jury is further proof that WING, as the leading Hungarian office building developer is partnering with, and providing word-class solutions to international corporations to meet their unique property-related needs. Hopefully, we can add a new chapter to the success story of the Telekom Headquarters and its surroundings with the launch of the construction of Liberty Office Building right next door”, said Noah Steinberg, Chairman and CEO of WING Zrt.

The 21st annual Hungarian Property Development Award of Excellence competition is designed to present major property development accomplishments to the Hungarian public and to enable participation at the international FIABCI World Prix d’Excellence competition. Over the past 20 years, Hungary has garnered many successes at the competition, including 22 gold and 30 silver medals altogether. These achievements clearly demonstrate that Hungary has been home to many world-class developments deserving of international recognition.
